This bus was purchased from Peerless Bus Lines in Oakland. I had to have a highway bus that represented the fishbowl body style. It originally had an 8V71 Detroit Diesel with a four-speed manual transmission. It was also one of the first to have air throttles, which actually makes it harder to shift. The bus, at that time, was in a front-end accident and had no engine. I knew I could make a good deal for this bus, and I traded a TDM-5303 bus for it.
I towed 307 back to California and began doing the major body work. I also built up a complete power plant and repainted it into my two-tone green paint job. It was simply beautiful and a lot of fun to have around.
After getting it operational, we took this bus everywhere. It performed very well and was a favorite for special events. This is one of the buses I still have to represent the highway buses.
In 1965 GM made a very good decision to integrate fishbowl body parts with the current highway buses being built at the time, many of the 4106 models. GM produced the PD4107, a 35-foot highway bus that used fishbowl body parts for the sides and rear and used current body designs for the lower sections and the front. A very smart move as you could exchange parts from a fishbowl...and vice versa.
